Extra-Curricular
We offer multiple opportunities to enrich the curriculum. These teams and clubs are designed to further develop character through discipline, leadership, life skills, physical fitness, team building, and community service.
Falcon Guard - Unarmed Drill Team
These cohesive teams learn to work, march, and perform together. They must work collectively with precision, regulation, and amazing showmanship to compete against other division JROTC teams. They have a history as both Division and Conference champions winning out against 35 other teams. Drill helps cadets realize the impact of their personal actions on the group as a whole. These teams train and perform in all aspects of military drill, including unarmed drill, armed drill, and color guard. All Falcon Guard members enroll in an early morning JROTC Advanced Drill Team class that meets four to five times each week during the competitive season (October – April). They are awarded 0.5 P.E. credit for each semester. All of the Falcon Guard train as unarmed drill members first; then choose to train in either armed drill or color guard as well.
Falcon Guard - Armed Drill Team
This team provides another opportunity to hone cooperation, attention to detail, and precision in a highly competitive environment. This varsity team uses replica 1903 Springfield rifles for regulation drill and rifle-spinning exhibition. Drill teaches cadets to appreciate the need for discipline and to understand the importance of following orders promptly and precisely. Throughout the school year, they compete against ten other regional JROTC teams in five Drill Meets. On occasion, they also awe their own student body during assemblies and half-time performances.
Falcon Guard - Color Guard
This elite group has the honor of presenting the colors (flags) at literally dozens of school and community events. These four-person teams consist of two color bearers (carrying the flags) and two color guards (carrying replica rifles). Our top two teams are our varsity who compete in regional drill meets. This extra-curricular opportunity teaches patriotism, respect, discipline, and team work.
Iron Falcons - Strength Team
Our varsity strength teams compete in five conference matches throughout the year. Each team consists of five cadets, two of which must be an opposite gender, i.e. two male and three female cadets. The competition regiment includes timed push-ups, sit-ups, and a mile run. This is a great opportunity to develop physical fitness, team work, and discipline. Our team has four practices each week. Practices include a tough regiment of endurance and strength training focusing on distance running, push-ups, and abdominal crunches.
Falcon Rifles - Air Rifle Team.
Shooting .177 caliber non-lead pellets into a target the size of a silver dollar at 10 meters is the challenge. This is our premier varsity Air Rifle Team wielding compressed air powered US Olympic precision rifles to compete in division, conference and national matches. This is an opportunity for cadets to learn basic safety, marksmanship skills, and tremendous patience and focus. The team practices after school twice a week, shooting at the school.
Kitty Hawk Air Society
JROTC's honor society. Membership is limited to the top 20% of the corps based on academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to the corps. Kitty Hawk leads the corps in recruiting, community service, and academic support to other students. Kitty Hawk members also go on an annual field trip every Spring.
