Congress has mandated that Air Force Junior ROTC instructors are retired military members. The officer is designated as the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor (SASI), and the Non-Commissioned Officer(NCO) as the Aerospace Science Instructor (ASI). AFJROTC instructors are retired, but continue to wear the Air Force uniform (retired grade) in the performance of their duties.
